KRASNODAR, October 15 (Itar-Tass) — The Electoral Commission of the Krasnodar Territory at 07:00 MSK, Monday counted 91 percent of the ballot protocols in the elections of deputies to the fifth territorial Legislative Assembly, which ended on October 14. According to preliminary data, United Russia is leading with 69.8 percent of the vote. The Communist Party (CPRF), which has won 8.89 percent of the vote, is second. The Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR) with 4.53 percent of the vote is third. A Just Russia party with 4.16 percent is fourth. They are followed by the Communists of Russia who got 3.26 percent, CPSU with 1.58 percent, For the Women of Russia with 1.20 percent and Yabloko with 1.02 percent. The remaining eight parties that also took part in the elections to the Kuban Parliament got than 1 percent.
Chairman of the regional electoral commission Yuri Burlachko told Itar-Tass that “more than 45 percent of eligible voters came to the polls in Kuban.”
This year, Kuban for the first time has elected a parliament comprising not 70, but 100 lawmakers. This is due to the fact that the number of eligible residents in the region has increased in recent years, and, accordingly, they should have more representatives in the local parliament.
Another feature of the current election campaign for the Kuban voters was that the elections of deputies to the Legislative Assembly were held by a mixed system: half of the parliament is elected in single-seat majority constituencies and the other half - in the single territorial constituency by party lists. Therefore, Kuban voters who came to the polls on Sunday were given two ballot papers for voting. One – for the single territorial constituency that contained the names of 16 parties. The second ballot was with the names of candidates in single-member constituencies. For ensuring equal representation of lawmakers in single-mandate constituencies the whole territory was divided into 50 constituencies with roughly the same number of voters residing in the region.
According to preliminary results, candidates supported by the United Russia party have won by a wide margin in most single-member constituencies in Kuban.
