Police say elections in Russia proceed in calm atmosphere

MOSCOW, October 14 (Itar-Tass) —— Voting in local elections throughout Russia proceeds in a generally calm atmosphere, Yuri Demidov, the chief of the Russia’s interior ministry’s public order department, told reported at the Information Centre of the Russian Central Election Commission.

“In general, the Russian interior ministry notes that elections are being held in a calm atmosphere. Police are ensuring law and order,” he said.

According to Demidov, about 102,000 policemen are on duty to secure law and order throughout Russia on Sunday, the single voting day.
