MOSCOW, October 13 (Itar-Tass) —— Police suggest the driver blamed for the traffic accident in which actress Marina Golub died giving himself up voluntarily. Police assure an objective investigation into the accident will be conducted, the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry's Moscow department said on Saturday.
"We once again address the driver of the Cadillac, proposing him to voluntarily come to the investigator, and we guarantee the investigation into the accident will be objective and unbiased," a departmental official said, adding that the fact of giving himself up would be certainly taken into consideration in the investigation.
The accident occurred on October 10 after the midnight at the crossing of Vernadsky Avenue and Lobachevsky Street. According to the police information, the Cadillac, running when the red traffic light signaled to stop, rammed into the Hyundai, in which Golub was. After the collision, the cars were struck by a Kia and a Lada. Golub and the driver in the Hyundai died at the site.
Law enforcement sources noted earlier that police practically had no doubt the owner of the Cadillac, Alexei Rusakov, born in 1980, was at the wheel at the moment. The driver escaped from the accident site, and for the time being Rusakov is on a federal wanted list. The man repeatedly violated the traffic regulations and was brought to account for the administrative offences, including for driving when drunk and driving onto other direction lanes.
A criminal case is opened over the accident, and it is referred to the Main Moscow Police Investigation Department to conduct the official investigation.
A video address of Alexei Rusakov appeared in the Internet. In the address, he said he was sorry the accident was so tragic and expressed sincere condolences to the victims' relatives and friends. "That night it was me who was driving the red-colour Cadillac," he confessed. Rusakov also apologized for displaying cowardice -- he yielded to panic, and in a state of a shock escaped from the accident site.
Meanwhile, the ceremony to pay last respects to Marina Golub has begun in Moscow, at the Chekhov Theatre, where she worked for almost ten years. She was 54.
Many people have come there. There is a line of people outside, and the theater is overcrowded. Among those who have come are head of the theater Oleg Tabakov, almost all the actors and actresses of the theater, Deputy Culture Minister Ivan Demidov, film directors Pavel Lungin and Pavel Chukhrai and many others.
The religious service for Golub will be held in the cathedral at Uspensky Vrazhek at 13:00.
Golub was born in Moscow. Her father was a diplomat, and her mother was an actress at the Gogol Theatre. Golub worked also as a host of television broadcasts.
