Georgian govt to perform its duties until new Cabinet is formed

A new Cabinet is to be confirmed by Parliament approximately on October 20-21

TBILISI, October 11 (Itar-Tass) — The government of the Republic of Georgia has tendered its resignation but it will continue to perform its duties, pending the formation of new executive power bodies, says a report posted at the presidential official website.

"According to an order issued by the President of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, the government's resignation petition has been granted. On the strength of the presidential order, the government has been assigned to perform its duties until a new government is appointed. A list of new members of the Government of Georgia will be presented to Parliament within a timeframe established by the Constitution," the report points out.

A new Cabinet is to be confirmed by Parliament approximately on October 20-21.

At the October 1 parliamentary elections, the Georgian Dream coalition, headed by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, gained 83 mandates. The United National Movement party, headed by Saakashvili, suffered a defeat upon getting 67 seats in the 150-seat Parliament of Georgia.
