3rd round of RF-US dialogue on mass media to open Thursday

WASHINGTON, October 11 (Itar-Tass) — The 3rd round of the Russian-U.S. dialogue on mass media under the auspices of the bilateral presidential commission on cooperation will open in Washington on Thursday.

The consultations involve representatives of the press, media businessmen and researchers dealing with the theory and practice of up-to-date journalism.

The dialogue will be held within the working group for exchanges in culture, education, sports, youth and mass media. The group is co-chaired by Russian presidential special envoy for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi and U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Tara D. Sonenshine. Head of the Bureau of International Information Programmes Dawn L. McCall and Itar-Tass First Deputy Director General Mikhail Gusman are coordinators of the sub-group on mass media. The delegation of Russian journalists is represented by chairman of the Union of Journalists of Moscow Pavel Gusev.

This is the third meeting. The previous meetings were held last year in Boston and Moscow.

The dialogue is planning to focus on professional education of journalists, entrepreneurship in mass media, innovation and the development of up-to-date technology, including social networks.
