MAKHACHKALA, October 10 (Itar-Tass) — President of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov headed on Wednesday for Derbent hit by heavy rains overnight to Wednesday, the press service of the republican leader told Tass.

Reports about partial flooding of houses started coming to republic’s emergencies ministry at 00:30 Moscow time on Wednesday. All in all, there were 1,120 people, including 280 children, in the flooded zones. Now the situation has stabilized and water has subsided. Work to pump water out of basements has been completed.
Specialists continue clearing roads of stones and garbage. Ministry sources said the road surface was not damaged and there are no visible traces of damage to buildings.
All in all over 500 people, assisted by 86 units of hardware, take part in work to liquidate the aftermath of the flooding.
Emergencies ministry sources report that two EMERCOM planes with rescuers and psychologists on board took off from Ramenskoye airfield outside Moscow at 8 am.
