MOSCOW, October 9 (Itar-Tass) — Russia will not conduct talks with Georgia on the future of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after the talks with his South Ossetian counterpart David Sanakoyev on Tuesday.

“We will not conduct any talks on the future of Abkhazia and South Ossetia either with Georgia or any other country, because these republics’ future has been decided by their people who supported their independence,” he said adding that Russia made clear its position having recognized this independence.

Lavrov also expressed the hope that the parliamentary elections and those changes for which the Georgian people cast their ballots will allow the Georgian authorities to normalize relations with their neighbours.
