Volkswagen has reported an increase of light car sales in Russia by 55.8%

KALUGA, October 8 (Itar-Tass) — Volkswagen has reported an increase of light car sales in Russia by 55.8%.

The Volkswagen-Light Cars Company sold almost 123,000 cars from January to September 2012 compared to 79,000 cars in January-September last year. More than 14,000 cars have been sold in September. The sales have increased by 17.2 percent since September last year.

The company says that Polo remains the most popular Volkswagen model in Russia. Over 49,000 Polo cars have been sold since the beginning of the year. The Volkswagen Tiguan Crossover is second and the Golf family is ranked third; almost 10,500 Golf cars and over 4,000 Gold Plus cars have been sold, respectively, since the start of this year.

LADA Granta was the most popular car with Russian buyers in September 2012. The Avtovaz car-maker sold 14,050 ‘popular’ cars and sent 1,374 for exports in September. Sales in the Russian market have increased by 12.3% since August.

LADA Granta is a new popular car. Its batch production was launched late in November 2011. Sales in Russia started in December.

Avtovaz sold 80,965 LADA Granta cars and exported 6,989 cars in the first nine months of 2012.
