TBILISI, October 8 (Itar-Tass) — The leader of Georgia’s opposition coalition Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili, has announced the line-up of a new government that will be submitted for consideration of a new parliament.
Ivanishvili will head the new government.
He nominated as Georgia’s Defense Minister Irakli Alasania, who in 2004 was Deputy Defense Minister and in 2006-2008 – Georgia’s UN envoy. Irakli Garibashvili, who has chaired Ivanishvili’s charity fund, is expected to head the Interior Ministry.
Maya Pandzhikidze, Georgia’s former ambassador to Germany and the Netherlands, is nominated as Foreign Minister.
David Usupashvili, leader of the Republican Party forming the coalition, is expected to become the parliamentary speaker. These figures may change slightly after the central election commission announces the final results of the voting no later than on October 20.
The first parliamentary session will take place on October 20-21.
The Georgian Dream coalition will get 83 seats in the 150 seat parliament, while the United National Movement that has been the country’s ruling party over the past nine years, will get 67.
