CARACAS, October 8 (Itar-Tass) — Hugo Chavez, leader of the Bolivarian Revolution movement, has won Sunday's presidential elections in Venezuela, the National Electoral Council (NEC) announced.
At 22:00, local time, the NEC made public the first final bulletin, according to which Chavez polled 54 percent of the vote. The main rival, Henrique Capriles, gained 45 percent of the vote.
In accordance with the current legislation, the NEC issues the first final bulletin only after a trend in the counting of votes becomes irreversible. So, the final results of the polling may vary but a winner has been determined definitely.
