The Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay Route will be presented in Moscow on Sunday

MOSCOW, October 7 (Itar-Tass) — The Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay Route will be presented in Moscow on Sunday.

It is known that the Torch Relay will last 123 days and its route will run across 65,000 kilometers exceeding the length of the Equator. The Olympic Torch will visit Russia’s 83 regions and territories.

Taking part in the relay will be 14,000 torchbearers and 30,000 volunteers from different corners of the country. The Olympic flame will go to the North Pole and deep into Lake Baikal in Siberia, the largest freshwater lake on the planet. It will be taken as high as Mount Elbrus in the western Caucasus mountain range and even into space.

According to organizers, the relay will go through 2,000 cities and towns across Russia and ideally their number should reach 2,014.

The Olympic Torch will arrive in Sochi on February 7, 2014, the official opening of the Winter Olympic Games.

The Paralympic Torch Relay will start no later than February 26, 2014, and will end on March 7, 2014, when the opening ceremony starts the Paralympic Games.
