Olympic Torch Relay to start in Moscow

MOSCOW, October 7 (Itar-Tass) —— The 2014 Sochi Olympic Torch Relay will start in Moscow at 12:00 this Sunday.

The relay will last 123 days. The length of the route is 65,000 km, much longer than the earth equator. The Olympic Torch will be carried across 83 regions of Russia.

Fourteen thousand of torch bearers and 30,000 volunteers from Russian regions are expected to participate in the event. The Olympic Torch will be taken to the North Pole, the bottom of Lake Baikal, the top of Elbrus and even will be carried from Baikonur to space.

According to the organizers, the relay route will lie across 2,000 residential sites. The exact number is expected to be 2014.

The Olympic Flame will arrive in Sochi on February 7, 2014, the Winter Olympic Games opening day.

The Paralympics Torch Relay will start no later than February 26, 2014 and finish on March 7, 2014, when the Paralympic Games open in Sochi.
