TBILISI, October 5 (Itar-Tass) – A rapid enough restoration of cultural and trade relations between Georgia and Russia is possible, Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the Georgian Dream Coalition and a candidate for the Prime Minister’s post said Friday at a meeting with businessmen.
Ivanishvili told his interlocutors he had not visited Russia for ten years.
“Yet I have a sensation and a hope that we’ll be able to restore the trade and cultural relations with Russia rapidly enough,” he said. “I don’t have any concrete document at the moment but I think Russia isn’t satisfied with the current state of things in relations with Georgia either.”
He said he hoped for a success of the attempts to restore trade and cultural relations with Russia if they were not accompanied by any preconditions.
“If all goes well then we’ll probably be able to export the harvest of citrus crops to Russia already this year /November and December – Itar-Tass/,” Ivanishvili said.
Regarding relations with Russia in other spheres, he admitted that they “will represent a rather knotty process”.
“Yet we’ll do everything in our power to move step by step towards the restoration of friendly relations with Russia on the basis of state interests, although intensive efforts and much work will be needed for this,” Ivanishvili said.
