MOSCOW, October 5 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow urges the Turkish government to refrain from steps that might deteriorate the already tense situation on the Turkish-Syrian border, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.
“We’d like to express the hope the Turkish side will show restraint and will not take any steps that might complicate the situation in the region further,” the ministry said in a commentary.
October 4, the Turkish parliament responded to an appeal from the Cabinet of Ministers and issued an authorization for a period of twelve months to carry out cross-border military operations.
“We’ve have taken note of statements made by the Turkish government officials and the Foreign Ministry regarding Ankara’s willingness to prevent a deterioration of tensions and to coordinate its actions regarding Syria with the international community,” the ministry said.
“Russia continues calling for a peaceful settlement of the crisis in Syria solely by the Syrians themselves in strict compliance with the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2042 and Resolution 2043, as well as the Geneva agreements,” the commentary said.
