Georgian Dream to have simple majority of 83 seats in new parliament

The United National Movement party scored 40.43 percent of votes and 34 seats in majority constituencies

TBILISI, October 5 (Itar-Tass) —— The Georgian Dream opposition coalition has won 54.85 percent of the vote by party tickets and 39 out of 73 seats in majority constituencies in the parliamentary elections of October 1, a spokesman for the Georgian Central Election Commission said on Friday after counting votes at all polling stations.

The United National Movement party scored 40.43 percent of votes and 34 seats in majority constituencies.

Thus, the Georgian Dream has won parliamentary seats by party tickets, and the United National Movement – 33 seats.

The number of seats won by both parties in majority constituencies may be adjusted after the final voting results are announced on October 19. The matter is that the voting results at a number of polling stations have been challenged and the Central Election Commission is currently studying relevant claims.

So far, the Georgian Dream will have simple majority of seats (83) in the new parliament, while the United National Movement – 67. The figures may be changed by two or three either way.
