RF gov’t to consider state healthcare programme to 2020, Medvedev said

Prime Minister to chair governmental healthcare commission

MOSCOW, October 5 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s government will consider soon a state healthcare programme to 2020, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at the opening of the first national congress of doctors on Friday in the Kremlin.

Key objectives of the state programme are higher quality and affordability of medical aid, he said adding that additional money from the Fund of obligatory medical insurance would come to the sector beginning from January 2013.

Another objective of the programme is modernisation of specific legislation, where patients would be granted a choice of doctor, hospital, or insurance company, Medvedev said. The government would be developing private-state partnership in healthcare.

Besides, the state programme would develop further high technology medicine, will improve medical education and establish biomedical research clusters. The programme will also focus on further prevention of diseases, on stimuli for individuals to watch their health, to have regular clinical examinations of children, the prime minister said.

Medvedev said he would chair the governmental healthcare commission.

“The objective of the commission is to make the country’s healthcare system modern and effective, to offer qualified medical assistance to everyone, no matter where people live – be that in a big city or in a small town, in a village,” Medvedev said in his speech at the first national congress of doctors on Friday.
