Putin calls for creating barrier to extremism propaganda in Internet

He expressed confidence that the meeting would make it possible to step up efforts aimed at fighting terrorism

MOSCOW, October 3 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin said it was necessary to create a reliable barrier to extremism propaganda in the Internet.

Addressing participants in the 11th meeting of heads of special services, security bodies and law enforcement agencies on Wednesday, Putin said new challenges should be taken into account by fighting terrorism.

The president called for creating the reliable barrier to the propaganda of extremism and intolerance in the Internet. “The large-scale forum plays an important role in building close partnership between international counter-terrorist structures and serves an authoritative platform for exchanging professional assessments on terrorist threats in different countries of the world,” Putin said.

He expressed confidence that the meeting would make it possible to step up efforts aimed at fighting terrorism. The Russian president noted, “It is necessary to take into account new challenges, i.e. to create a reliable barrier to information spread in the Internet, the propaganda of extremism, national, religious and social intolerance.”

Putin’s greetings message was read out by the FSB director.
