TBILISI, October 2 (Itar-Tass) — Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has admitted defeat of his ruling party at the parliamentary elections.

“The preliminary results show that the Georgian Dream coalition won the parliamentary elections and will get the parliamentary majority and enjoy the right to form a new government,” he said in his nationwide TV address on Tuesday.

The ruling United National Movement “will go into opposition,” Saakashvili said.

“As president I within the constitutional framework will help the beginning of the work of a new parliament, election of a parliamentary speaker by the supreme legislative body and formation of a new government,” he said.

“The views of the Georgian Dream coalition are fundamentally unacceptable for me. There is very deep difference between us and we believe that most of their views are extremely mistakable. But democracy works in such a way that decisions are taken by the Georgian people in majority and we respect this choice,” Saakashvili said.

According to the latest results of the Georgian central election commission, the Georgian Dream leads with 53.19 percent of votes in the parliamentary race and the United National Movement received 41.51 percent after the ballots were counted at 25.17 percent of the polling stations.
