MOSCOW, October 2 (Itar-Tass) — Russian parachute jumper Irina Sinitsyna died at an IT ward of the Burdenko neurosurgery institute, doctors told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. Sinitsyna had been injured during an unsuccessful jump at the Perris Valley airfield, California, on September 23. A large group of skydivers from different countries, including Russians, attempted to set a record in group formation. They wore special aerodynamic suits and tried to form a rectangular comprising 100 people. Sinitsyna collided with a colleague during the jump, got entangled in suspension lines and was unable to open a backup parachute.

Russia sent an Emergency Situations Ministry plane to Los Angelis to collect the injured athlete on September 27, and on September 29, Sinitsyna was flown to Moscow and rushed to the Burdenko hospital in critical condition. The doctors said they had done everything possible to save her life. The skydiver died without regaining consciousness.
