GROZNY, October 1 (Itar-Tass) —— The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, approved of the decision of Moscow’s Tverskoi court finding the film “Innocence of Muslims” extremist and banning its showing in Russia.
“I regard this as a good sign. This is an example of a civilized approach to the solution of a complicated problem concerning entire society. Russia’s Prosecutor-General Office and the court showed clearly their resolve firmly to oppose any attempts to set at loggerheads the country’s citizens of different nationalities and religious creed,” Kadyrov told reporters on Monday.
He said, “A range of well-considered, timely and wise measures by the country’s leaders and the Prosecutor-General Office and a mature civil stand of religious and public figures of Russia made it possible to avoid the worst scenario of developments, such as have led to tragic consequences in a number of countries.”
“The freedom of speech must not threaten citizens’ lives and stability in society, must not insult religious feelings of hundreds of millions and even a billion people. In such case, ‘the freedom of speech’ turns into extremism and radicalism,” Kadyrov said.
The head of the Chechen Republic said words of gratitude to Muslims of Russia who responded to the call not to fall for provocations of the authors of the film. Kadyrov believes “this reflects maturity of the Muslim society in Russia and awareness of responsibility for possible negative consequences of mass protests. This can also be regarded as the indicator of profound confidence of Muslims of Russia in the head of state.”
