MOSCOW, October 1 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for a public discussion of the pension reform, with the Open Government taking part.

“The government is to arrange for the widest public discussion. This is an extremely important issue economically and socially,” Putin said at a meeting with veterans and delegates from public organizations of retirees.

He believes that taking part in the discussion should be not only Labor Ministry officials.

“Participation of top government officials, deputy prime ministers responsible for social affairs and for the economy is a must,” Putin said. “On the basis of the Cabinet the sol-called Open Government has been created. This problem should be studied in detail with the use of its instruments.”

Putin was critical of the Labor Ministry, whose chief received a reprimand just recently.

“I do know the Labor Ministry published this for discussion on its website just recently. The expert community and public organizations had very little time to study it in detail,” Putin said.

He promised that he would thoroughly study the government’s proposals for the pension reform strategy.

“I shall study all provisions of the strategy most closely myself,” he promised.
