MOSCOW, October 1 (Itar-Tass) — Police have detained a group of people protesting against Pussy Riot in front of the Moscow City Court which will examine on Monday the appeal against two-year jail sentences to three members of the punk band for performing a “punk prayer” in Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral.
The protesters brought inflatable female dolls in balaclavas to the court building. Thus they wanted to express protest against attempts by some international organizations, including PACE representatives, “to nominate Pussy Riot for honorable awards and premiums”.
They dubbed the action of Pussy Riot as “political swindle and an act of hooliganism”. According to the participants in the protest action the inflatable dolls were to “embody the PR concert of the scandalous band”. Meanwhile Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Yekaterina Samutsevich and Maria Alyokhina have already been convoyed to the court building. Security measures have been stepped up there.
On August 17, Moscow’s Khamovniki district court sentenced the young women to two years in general penitentiary for hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.
