Russia signs Protocol to Convention on Rights of Child

The signing of the Optional Protocol is the first step in the process to legally formalize the Russian participation in the international agreement

MOSCOW, September 29 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia has signed the Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

In accordance with Russian President Vladimir Putin's order, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in New York on September 26 signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, the ministry said.

The signing of the international agreement once again demonstrates the political will to protect and fully observe the rights of children in the Russian Federation and combat violence against minors and their sexual exploitation. The step fully meets the line pursued by the Russian leadership to prioritize the welfare of children and the youth and create condition for their safe growing.

The signing of the Optional Protocol is the first step in the process to legally formalize the Russian participation in the international agreement.

The ratification will be considered later. For this purpose, under the aegis of the Russian Interior Ministry, the special plan is being implemented, including necessary legal, organizational and practical measures, the ministry said.
