DOMODEDOVO AIRPORT, near Moscow, September 29 (Itar-Tass) — Physicians assess the physical condition of Russian skydiver Irina Sinitsyna, who received injuries during a free-fall championship in California, as extremely heavy.
Friday night, the athlete was flown by a jet of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense /EMERCOM/ from the U.S. to Moscow’s Domodedovo airport, where from she was taken to the Nikolai Burdenko Neurosurgery Institute.
“Irina’s condition is very heavy but she sustained the flight well enough, without displaying any negative dynamics,” said Alexei Bogorad, a physician working for the Centrospas emergency medical responses center who accompanied Sinitsyna aboard the jet.
“Her blood pressure was supported with the aid of medicines when she was aboard,” he said.
Bogorad expressed the hope the Burdenko Institute physicians will do everything in their power to help Sinitsyna in this situation.
The EMERCOM jet left for California September 26 and landed in Los Angeles September 27. Overnight to September 28, it took off for Moscow.
“Since the flight was very long, the jet had a double crew,” said Alexei Avdeyev, the chief of EMERCOM’s international department. “Centrospas physicians kept the athlete’s condition under control all the time and took all the necessary intensive care measures.”
Irina is in a coma after a failed free fall at Perris Valley skydiving resort center in California.
Sunday, a big group of skydivers – about a hundred personal altogether – made an attempt to break a record in making up a group formation. Clad in special aerofoil suits, they tried to form a rectangle in the air.
During the opening of the main canopy, she had a collision with another participant, after which she failed to open a reserve parachute on time.
