Russia creates new IL-476 transport plane

The minister said that the project had kicked off in 2006. Its production was transferred from Tashkent to Russia

NOVO-OGARYOVO, September 28 (Itar-Tass) — Russia has finished a project for the creation of a new IL-476 Russian transport plane. Russian Minister of Industry and Commerce Denis Manturov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the completion of this big job.

The minister said that the project had kicked off in 2006. Its production was transferred from Tashkent to Russia. It was a new production in fact. A project in its initial stage,” Manturov said.

He emphasized that the flight range had increased by 25% and the carrying capacity by 15%-17% respectively.

“We are forming a package of orders,” Manturov said.

He expressed the hope that other customers would also appear alongside with the Russian Defense Ministry.

Manturov said that the new plane had made two short flights. “We are getting ready for the first trial flight,” the minister told Putin.

“This is good and pleasant news,” Putin said. “The world has few such planes. They are in big demand both in commercial and military spheres,” the Russian president emphasized.

“Now, it’s necessary to finalize all the details linked to organization of purchases”, Putin said, adding that prices should match the quality of the product.
