MINSK, September 28 (Itar-Tass) — Nadezhda Yermakova, chairman of the board of the National Bank of Belarus, said on Friday that the bank could consider the question of denomination of the Belarusian ruble in 2013.
“As far as denomination is concerned, I think that we can start considering this issue in the middle of next year. Indeed, people’s incomes are growing and prices are also on the rise,” Yermakova said in an interview with the state-owned newspaper “Zvyazda”.
She said that several economic conditions, the low inflation rate above all, should be created for denomination.
“The current situation at the economic, financial and currency markets are not giving us a chance to talk about early denomination,” she said.
Yermakova said that denomination shouldn’t hurt anyone. “It’s more of a technical process linked to automatic zero suppression, which no one should fear,” she said.
