NIZHY NOVGOROD, September 28 (Itar-Tass) —— The Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill most likely will be closed, Russian Vice-Premier Arkady Dvorkovich said in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday.
"Though many such plants are working, most likely, the mill will have to be closed," he said.
Speaking about the Cheboksary Reservoir that is planned to be raised to the 68th point, the vice-premier said no decision was taken yet on the project.
A special group is working. Under consideration are various solutions to the problem. But no final solution is found yet. The work to analyze and thoroughly study the project will continue. An acceptable solution will be found, Dvorkovich assured.
The dialogue with the public must be constructive, he noted.
"If to take the known Khimki forest, if to be always guided by ecologists' recommendations, we had not built even one road," he said.
Modern technologies are more ecologically friendly than the former ones with the use of old equipment, he added.
The Russian Public Chamber had public hearings recently on the project to raise the level of the Cheboksary Reservoir to the 68th point. The Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mari El, which have areas that will be in the flooded zone, oppose the project.
