TOKYO, September 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Representatives of the Russian and Japanese Defense Ministries discussed issues of deepening bilateral ties at consultations in Tokyo on Thursday. Staffers of the Main International Military Cooperation Department of the Russian Defense Ministry and the Defense Policy Department of the Japanese Defense Ministry took part in them.
As ITAR-TASS was informed, the sides also exchanges views at the consultations on Moscow’s and Tokyo’s policy in the field of ensuring security and on the situation in the region.
Such meetings are held in the two countries’ capitals since 1996. Russia and Japan have close contacts in the defense sphere: apart from consultations, the sides hold joint exercises with the participation of the two countries’ ships and regularly exchange visits at different levels, including defense ministers.
