Man gets 4 years in prison for robbing monastery in Kamchatka

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, September 27 (Itar-Tass) — The city court of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky has sentenced to four years’ imprisonment a resident of the Khabarovsk Territory with two previous convictions. The criminal stole from the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky about 35 thousand roubles of parishioners’ donations, the court’s press service told Itar-Tass.

On January 27, 2012, the perpetrator penetrated into the cathedral, opened donation boxes and stole money that was inside. A few days later the malefactor stole 28 thousand roubles from the house of the senior priest of the Monastery of the Holy Great Martyr and Healer St. Panteleimon and a safe with 300 thousand roubles belonging to the monastery.

The defendant fully admitted his guilt. His case was considered in a specific order.
