CARACAS, September 27 (Itar-Tass) — Visiting Rosneft president Igor Sechin said he would make a trip to the Orinoco Oil Belt.
On Wednesday, September 26, Sechin and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez made a trip to the Fort Tiuna base where Moscow constructors were building a housing area.
Commenting on Rosneft’s investment plans, Sechin told Chavez that a total of 20 billion U.S. dollars were planning to be invested in the Junin 6 project in the nearest 40 years. The company will invest 16 billion U.S. dollars to the Carabobo 2 project.
Chavez said the Junin 2 project had special significance. “This will be first oil, which is developed by the Russian company in South America,” the Venezuelan president said, adding that earlier, only U.S. companies had the right to produce oil in Venezuela.
In his words, one should not forget that oil, which was produced by the U.S., moved out Venezuela among the top exporters in the world. “Due to the Bolivarian Revolution we will be able to overcome our dependence on American monopolies. This dependence lasted for many decades,” Chavez added.
Sechin, who is currently in Venezuela on a working trip, said: “Hugo Chavez is one of the greatest political scientists in the world. We are pleased that our cooperation in the energy sector has developed successfully in line with social projects. The Fort Tiuna army base serves the example of such cooperation. Moscow constructors are now building a housing area in this town.”
Chavez invited Sechin to visit Fort Tiuna that had transformed into a big construction site where Venezuelan, Russian, Belarusian and Chinese specialists worked together. During the inspection trip, the Venezuelan president said Vladimir Putin advised him to engage himself to control the construction of this area because the housing problem could be resolved in such manner. “After the conversation I decided to work out a national programme, ‘Housing Great Mission’. Within the programme we intend to build three million apartments in the nearest six years. No Venezuelan citizen will be without housing by 2019,” Chavez said.
