Russia’s unemployment rate exceeds 5% in August 2012

The total number of jobless people in Russia counted under the standards of the ILO 3.7-times exceeded the country’s officially registered unemployment rate

MOSCOW, September 26 (Itar-Tass) —— The unemployment rate, or the ratio of the number of jobless people and Russia’s able-bodied population, amounted to 5.2 percent in August 2012, the Russian State Statistics Service said in its regular report.

Under the document, as of the end of the month under review, the total number of the officially registered unemployed persons in the country was at 1.068 people, which was 1.7 percent smaller than in July 2012.

The total number of jobless people in Russia counted under the standards of the International Labour Organisations (ILO) 3.7-times exceeded the country’s officially registered unemployment rate, the statistics said.

Besides, the employment rate, or the ratio of the total number of employed people and the country’s overall population, amounted to 65.4 percent in August 2012, the statistics report said.

In the period under review, the lowest unemployment rate under the ILO standards was registered in the Central Federal District, while the highest rate was in the North Caucasus Federal District, the Russian State Statistics Service said.
