Russia’s new presidential council on culture to hold its first meeting

MOSCOW, September 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s new presidential council on culture and arts will hold its first meeting on Tuesday to discuss key aspects of Russia’s modern cultural policy, the Kremlin press service reported.

In line with the presidential decree of September 19, 2012, the council has been extended from 45 to 58 members to include authoritative people of arts and cultural, such as film directors, actors and show business performers.

For the first time, representatives of public and non-commercial organizations and mass media have been included in the council.

The presidential decree also amended the council’s functions to enable it to form inter-agency commissions on such matters as modern cultural policy and development of creative initiatives; humanitarian development, artistic education and creative upbringing of young people; preservation, use and popularization of the historical and cultural heritage, development of cultural and educational tourism; international cultural cooperation.

At its first meeting, the council plans to discuss “questions related to key aspects of modern cultural policy and support to creative initiatives, preservation, use and popularization of the historical and cultural heritage (including problems of historical cities and the development of cultural and educational tourism), humanitarian development, artistic education and creative upbringing of young people, as well as international cultural cooperation,” the presidential press service said.
