The Liberal Democratic faction has offered the candidacy of Alexei Mitrofanov to the post. Formally he is from A Just Russia Party faction, but he was barred from the faction’s activities after together with some other deputies he voted on May 8 for the candidacy of Dmitry Medvedev for Prime Minister in defiance of the faction leadership’s decision.
Earlier, Vice Speaker Andrei Vorobyov made it clear that Mitrofanov had all chances to head the new committee. “I can say that he is one of the main candidacies to be considered to that position,” he said earlier.
