MOSCOW, September 24 (Itar-Tass) — The State Duma, lower house of parliament, will solve the problem related to setting up a new committee on mass media on September 28, Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin said on Monday.
At the same time, Naryshkin said Alexei Mitrofanov had been nominated to take the lead of the committee. The factions of the United Russia party and the Liberal Democratic Party supported his candidature. “This is the working variant. If the deputies support the candidature, he [Mitrofanov] will handle this job,” the Duma speaker said.
Earlier, at the faction’s presidium United Russia members upheld Mitrofanov’s candidature. He was nominated by the LDPR. “The presidium [the United Russia faction] has supported Mitrofanov’s nominee,” head of the United Russia faction, deputy speaker Andrei Vorobyov said, adding, “Alexei Mitrofanov’s candidature will be submitted to the faction’s consideration. On Wednesday we will gather and discuss his candidature.”
“By obtaining support we will be able to take a decision on setting up the committee and electing its leader by the end of the week,” the lawmaker said. “We will also nominate the first deputies speaker from every faction. The head of the committee will have four first deputies. Within this format the committee will cooperate with mass media,” he added.
On September 17, Naryshkin instructed to prepare documents to form a new committee, which would deal with issues related to mass media.
