Samara region files lawsuit against Berezovsky to London High Court

All in all, Berezovsky and Dubov owe 1.063 billion roubles in damages claimed by the Samara regional government and which were satisfied by the Russian courts

SAMARA, September 24 (Itar-Tass) — The local government of the Samara region has filed a lawsuit against Boris Berezovsky to the High Court in London, claiming 989 million roubles in overall losses inflicted by Berezovsky. That is an overall debt Berezowsky owes to the Samara regional government after its damages claims to Berezovsky had been satisfied by Russian courts.

In the framework of an investigation into a criminal case against ex- chairman of the Logovaz Board Boris Berezovsky and his former business partner Yuli Dubov it was established that in 1995 both Berezovsky and Dubov were responsible for embezzlement in a number of episodes, which inflicted overall losses on the Samara region worth 58 million roubles.

In June 2009 the Krasnogorsk city court in the Moscow region passed a verdict to Berezovsky and Dubov in which the court fully satisfied the damages suits filed against them by the government of the Samara region. Two years later the Samara regional government appealed to the same court, asking for an indexation of an overall sum of the debt since June 2009 until July 2011, which the court also satisfied. The overall sum of the indexation claim was assessed at 8.5 million roubles.

On April 4, 2012 the Moscow Simonovsky district court passed another resolution in favor of the Samara regional government. The court ruled to charge Berezovsky and Dubov both interest rates for using someone's else capital and an indexation fee for the inflicted losses, earlier stipulated by the Krasnogorks court, due since 1995 when the crime was committed until the date when the Russian court passed its first resolution on the case in June 2009. The overall sum totaled 997 million roubles.

. After 74 million roubles were paid to the regional government in the framework of court proceedings the remainder of the outstanding debt is 989 million roubles. All in all, Berezovsky and Dubov owe 1.063 billion roubles in damages claimed by the Samara regional government and which were satisfied by the Russian courts

In recent years Berezovsky has been staying in Great Britain which refused to extradite him to the Russian authorities. Dubov has also been staying abroad.
