Alexei Mitrofanov nominated to head of Duma Committee on Information Policies

We will also nominate candidates from each of the four Duma factions, - leader of the United Russia faction Andrei Vorobyov

MOSCOW, September 24 (Itar-Tass) — Alexei Mitrofanov, nominated for the post of Chairman of a new Duma Committee on Information Policies which is being established at the State Duma, has gained unanimous support from the United Russia faction.

The presidium of the United Russia faction has supported Alexei Mitrofanov nominated for the post of the committee chairman by the LDPR faction, leader of the United Russia faction at the State Duma Andrei Vorobyov confirmed don Monday.

The Duma will meet on Wednesday, and one of the issues on the agenda is a discussion of Mitrofanov's candidature, Vorobyov said. The new Chairman of the Duma committee on Information Policies will have four first deputy chairmen from each of the Duma factions, Vorobyov said.

"If we get support by the end of the week we might reach a decision both on the establishment of the committee and its chairman, " Vorobyov said. "We will also nominate candidates from each of the four Duma factions for the post of the four deputy chairmen of the new committee. There will be four first deputy chairmen. This is the format in which the committee will work with the mass media," Vorobyov said.

On September 17 Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin asked to prepare the necessary documents for the establishment of the new Duma committee- the thirtieth in succession, which will attend to problems related to the mass media.
