Belarus’ parliamentary elections valid in all 110 districts

At 19:00 Moscow time Belarus’ voter turnout reached 65.9 percent, the central election commission said

MINSK, September 23 (Itar-Tass) — Belarus’ parliamentary elections have been recognized as valid in all 110 electoral districts, secretary of the central election commission, Nikolai Lozovik, told reporters on Sunday.

At 19:00 Moscow time Belarus’ voter turnout reached 65.9 percent, the central election commission said.

Even in Minsk, which traditionally reports low activity, 53.6 percent of voters put on the voter lists cast their ballots two hours before the polling stations closed.

Voter turnout in the Vitebsk and Gomel regions exceeded 70 percent and at one electoral district in the Mogilev region it reached almost 90 percent.

Belarus set the voter turnout threshold for the parliamentary elections at 50 percent.

Two hundred and ninety-three candidates are contesting for 110 seats in the lower house of the Belarussian parliament.
