MOSCOW, September 21 (Itar-Tass) — MP Alexei Mitrofanov who represents A Just Russia party faction in the State Duma has given consent to taking the position of chairman on the lower house’s committee for information policies, information technologies and communications.
He said it to reporters Friday answering a question on whether or not the ruling United Russia Party had offered him to accept the position.
“Yes, I did give my consent to them,” Mitrofanov said.
A proposal to make him chairman of that committee came earlier from the faction of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, which he used to belong to in the previous phases of his political career.
“The LDPR nominates Mitrofanov for this post,” the deputy chairman of the LDPR faction, Yaroslav Nilov said.
Mitrofanov and a number of other MPs who formally represent A Just Russia were dismissed from activities in the faction earlier after they had voted for appointing Dmitry Medvedev to the post of Prime Minister contrary to the instructions issued to them by the party’s governing bodies.
The Duma’s majority elected Medvedev Prime Minister May 8.
