St PETERSBURG, September 21 (Itar-Tass) — Prosecutor's Office of St Petersburg has issued a warning to the executives of the VKontakte social network over the proliferation of the Innocence of Muslims video.

The prosecutors believe the network encroaches on a number of legislative regulations pertaining to the counteraction to extremism, telecommunications and information technologies.

“To prevent the proliferation of the video, which depicts Prophet Mohammed’s life in an abusive form and aims to shape up the image of Islam and the sections of the population espousing this religion as if they were degenerative, an official reprimand has been issued to the executives of VKontakte network,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

Thursday, the prosecutors issued warnings to St Petersburg’s largest Internet providers and demanded that the users’ access to the highly explosive video be blocked.

“Familiarization of an unlimited number of people with this material may bring about highly unfavorable consequences up to the committing of crimes of a terrorist or extremist character,” the statement said.
