Russia insists on termination of USAID activities as of Oct 1

MOSCOW, September 20 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia insists on the termination of all activities by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in its territory as of October 1, 2012, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich has said.

“We maintain that this decision by a sovereign state shall be implemented to the full extent. We have been given promises to this effect by our American counterparts,” he said.

Earlier, media reports said US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had sent a special message to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a request for prolonging the operation of USAID in Russia till May 2013.
