Leader of Nalchik gunmen killed in special operation

MOSCOW, September 20 (Itar-Tass) — Leader of Nalchik gangs Shamil Ulbashev has been destroyed in a special operation, the Russian Interior Ministry reported.

"According to preliminary information, Shamil Ulbashev, the so-called "amir" of the town, has been destroyed in an anti-terrorist operation," a Ministry representative said.

Law-enforcement agents blocked a group of militants in a private house in Klara Tsetkin Street on Thursday morning. The area was sealed off, and a regime of anti-terrorist operation was introduced.

An official at the operations headquarters of the regional department of the National Antiterrorist Committee told Itar-Tass the gunmen had ignored the calls from their relatives to lay down arms and continued armed resistance. There was one woman among the militants.
