WASHINGTON, September 20 (Itar-Tass) —— U.S. authorities are not aware of Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov’s remarks concerning the death of the American ambassador in Libya and there is no reason to impose sanctions against him, White House spokesperson Jay Carney said.
There was a minor flare-up over Zyuganov’s remarks in his Twitter account, where he had written that “the U.S. ambassador in Libya was shot like a dog. He was the main specialist on the Libyan revolution. He reaped what he sowed.”
Zyuganov said his remarks had been lifted out of context and distorted by his aides.
On the other hand, it was reported that this episode attracted the attention of the U.S. authorities and created an outrage in America.
However, when asked, Carney said, “I’m hearing about it for the first time, so I’m not aware of this report and I’m not aware of any outrage here. I just -- it wasn’t brought to my attention.”
When asked whether if he had ever heard of someone being sanctioned in a situation like this for making an offensive comment about an American official, Carney said, “I have not. Again, I have not heard of this report. I know of no basis to it. That’s all I know.”
