MOSCOW, September 18 (Itar-Tass) — The United Russia faction at the State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament will discuss the candidacies of A Just Russia representatives Alexei Mitrofanov and Leonid Levin, and United Russia members Alexander Khinshtein and Boris Reznik to the post of chairman of the house committee on the mass media, head of the parliamentary majority faction, deputy speaker Andrei Vorobyov told reporters on Tuesday.

He reminded that on Monday house speaker Sergei Naryshkin suggested setting up a committee on the mass media. "Indeed, these consultations are underway. There is an understanding that the State Duma will form its 30th committee in the nearest future," Vorobyov said adding that "this committee is very important."

"Among the candidates to be considered for the post of head of the committee are Mitrofanov, Levin, Khinshtein and Reznik. Time will show whom we'll choose. We'll consult with our faction, and decision is due shortly. We need some time to weigh things up and see the concepts of each of the above candidates in order to decide who will lead this important State Duma committee. The discussion may take place as early as next week. We're setting up the committee in order to directly interact with all the mass media.

"Of course, we'll discuss it with representatives of other factions," Vorobyov said.

Mitrofanov and Levin are members of A Just Russia faction who were suspended from work at this faction for supporting Dmitry Medvedev as premier in the May 8 vote, contrary to the faction's decision.
