MOSCOW, September 17 (Itar-Tass) —— Speaker of Russia’s State Duma Sergei Naryshkin ordered considering establishment of a new committee on mass media.
“At today’s meeting of the State Duma I gave an order to prepare necessary documents to establish another committee – on mass media,” he told reporters on Monday. “This topic has been discussed earlier, and now it is a necessity already.”
The society pays “much attention to mass media, to bills on mass media,” Naryshkin said. “New technologies, including digital television, are being used now; we are organising the Public Television.”
“I believe, the State Duma will support my suggestion on establishment of this committee,” he said explaining he would have “consultations with leaders of parliamentary factions to discuss the committee’s members and leaders”.
Naryshkin said the establishment of the new committee might require several weeks.
