STAVROPOL, September 16 (Itar-Tass) —— Ten people – a Gazelle driver and his passengers – died in a road accident in the Stavropol territory, the territorial transport ministry said. It stressed the Gazelle owner was transporting his relatives to a wedding.

The Gazelle belonged to a resident of the village Malaya Dzhalga, Stavropol transport minister Alexander Pavlov told reporters. Road police said he slid into the counter lane, fell asleep at the wheel and collided with a DAF truck of a resident of Azerbaijan. The accident happened seven kilometers away from the village Levokumovskoye last night.

Six people on the Gazelle died instantly, and four died at the district hospital, within three hours since the accident. The truck driver is alive.

“The Gazelle owner was not selling transport services. That was his private vehicle, which was earlier registered in Dagestan. He brought the vehicle from Dagestan to Malaya Dzhalga and re-registered it there. The family planned a wedding in Malaya Dzhalga and asked him to bring more relatives from Dagestan. He was transporting nine people to the wedding,” Pavlov said.

The Gazelle was bought to carry vegetables, not to be used as a private shuttle taxi, he stressed.
