VIENNA, September 14 (Itar-Tass) —— The secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency and Teheran should take the necessary measures to overcome the existing differences on the mutually acceptable basis, finalize a draft structural approach and begin its practical implementation. This is precisely the gist of what the IAEA board of governors said in a resolution adopted on Thursday, Russia’s member of the board of governors, ambassador Grigory Berdennikov said in connection with the voting on the draft resolution co-authored by the international sextet – Britain, Germany, China, Russia, the United States and France.
A lasting solution of the Iranian nuclear problem can be found only by diplomatic means “at the negotiating table on the basis of a multi-phased approach and reciprocity.”
The resolution expressed serious concern over Iran’s failure to comply with the corresponding resolutions of the UN Security Council and the IAEA Board of Governors and its continuing heavy water-related activities, as well as uranium enrichment at Fordu.
Berdennikov said the wording of the adopted resolution was balanced and aimed at encouraging the dialogue between Iran and the IAEA and also at promoting an early negotiated settlement over the Iranian nuclear program on the basis of a multi-phased approach and reciprocity in accordance with the nuclear arms non-proliferation treaty.
“I would like to say that the corresponding mandate of the IAEA Board of Governors” resolution of November 18, 2011 remained in force and the just-adopted resolution made special mention of that,” Berdennikov said. “The work under this mandate must be taken to a successful outcome.”
