MOSCOW, September 13 (Itar-Tass) — Two gunmen have been killed in an operation in Dagestan, including the head of the so-called Kizlyar militant group involved in plotting a terrorist act, a source from the information centre of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

A group of up to four armed gunmen was spotted near the settlements of Shaumyan and Krasny Voskhod in Dagestan’s Kizlyar district at noon, Moscow time, on Thursday during an operation to find gunmen from a militant group operating in Dagestan.

The gunmen offered armed resistance. Two of them were killed in an exchange of fire. “According to operational data, the spotted gunmen are from the so-called Kizlyar militant group. The group is responsible for a number of grave crimes of terrorist nature, murders, explosions and extortion,” the source said.

The killed gunmen have been identified. Submachine guns and ammunition have been seized from the site. The special operation continues.
