KRASNODAR, southern Russia, September 12 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomes the idea of re-creating a Military-Historical Society in Russia.

“I’ve just talked to the minister of culture. There’s an idea to re-create a Military-Historical Society in Russia. It used to work effectively and efficiently in the past. We will talk about that later. We will continue our work in Moscow but I think that the idea is good,” Putin told a meeting with the Russian public devoted to the moral and patriotic upbringing of Russian youth on Wednesday.

The president recalled that patriotism and morale were the key topics at the recent celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino. Thousands of enthusiasts took part in the re-enactment of the Battle of Borodino on September 2.

“I’ve met members of military historical societies and search teams many times. Naturally, their work deserves all kind of support. These predominantly young people do a very useful and noble job. We should certainly support such civilian initiatives,” Putin stressed.

The president said that what he had just said should equally be applied to military training of the younger generation. He added it was necessary to increase public prestige of army service. Putin shared his impressions from visiting the Krasnodar-based presidential cadet corps.

“It’s just great. It’s very good. The training process has been organized in a professional way. The corps has modern and advanced material and technological basis. I think that many institutions of high learning can envy this cadet school. In fact, we should move in this direction,” Putin said.

The president promised to develop a system of cadet corps and Suvorov cadet schools across Russia and encourage pre-draft training of future conscripts, including within the framework of the Cossack movement.
