Smugglers steal service-issue weapons from border guards in Belgorod region

The police rushed to the incident scene, and roads were blocked

MOSCOW, September 11 (Itar-Tass) —— Smugglers attacked border guards in the Belgorod region. Service-issue weapons were stolen. One of the smugglers is detained, the Russian Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

“The police was informed about the incident at about 11:30 p.m. Moscow time on Monday. According to the preliminary reports, a two-men border detail was attacked in the village Mokraya Orlovka after the border guards had tried to detain smugglers. There were ten to 14 smugglers in all,” it said.

The police rushed to the incident scene, and roads were blocked. The search for the suspects started.

“The place where the smugglers parked their UAZ vehicles was found rapidly and an attacker was detained. One of the stolen pistols was found,” the ministry said.
