Kemerovo mine work suspended over methane ignition

Three of the seven miners who were in the emergency area were injured and hospitalized

KEMEROVO, September 10 (Itar-Tass) — Underground work has been suspended at the Koksovaya-2 mine in Russia’s Kemerovo region, where methane ignited on Sunday night, the press service of the region’s Emergencies Ministry told Itar-Tass on Monday.

Three of the seven miners who were in the emergency area were injured and hospitalized.

“There were 86 miners underground, when methane ignited. All of them were safely lifted to the surface,” the source said.

At present, ten rescue units are engaged in liquidating the effects of the methane ignition.

An investigation is underway.
